Weed Out Racine is a grassroots organization working on local environment issues since 2016. Support our Pull-A-Thon Team as we control garlic mustard and Dame's rocket in Racine's wonderful Colonial Park!
Our May 27 Work Day (9 am - noon) will focus on removing garlic mustard and dame's rocket. And good news - we're also looking for garlic mustard aphids!! a small insect pest that seems to be eating garlic mustard. We'll start work in the entry area near the bridge from Lincoln Park, looking carefully among the growing vegetation. AND then work upstream along both sides of the Root River Pathway. We'll use a shovel to loosen the soil if the roots stubbornly refuse to be pulled out easily. We'll bag what we pull and leave on the edge of the path.
Park at the Root River Steelhead Facility (2200 Domanik Drive) and cross the bridge into Lower Colonial. Dress for the weather, (my weather app promises sun, but...) Wear sturdy shoes (footing can be tricky) and long trousers with socks (tick protection). Bring your own work gloves, and perhaps a shovel you like to use. We have some, but you may like your own.
Hope to see you Saturday May 27th!! -Melissa
