The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) Greenseams® Program is a flood management approach that works to reduce the future risk of flooding by preserving lands with hydric attributes. Greenseams® uses the land conservation model, where land or the interests in land are permanently protected through acquisitions and easements from willing private landowners. Through this mechanism, Greenseams® preserves what nature has deemed hydrologically natural to the area, including riverine systems, shorelines, wetlands, floodplains, hydric soils, and forests. Since the first acquisition in 2003, the MMSD Greenseams® Program has protected more than 6,000 acres in the Milwaukee, Menomonee, Oak Creek, and Root River Watersheds.
To help maintain lands protected by the Greenseams® Program volunteers will pull garlic mustard and dame’s rocket at two sites in the floodplain of the Little Menomonee River in southwest Ozaukee County.
Please join our team to reduce invasive species and enhance habitat at these two sites. All funds raised will go to SEWISC.
