2026 SEWISC New Invaders Field Training

When it comes to ecological restoration, there are always new threats to our natural areas. With our highly globalized society and changing climate, we find new invasive species creeping into our area each year. The best way to eradicate new threats to our natural areas is to identify small populations to begin control and eradication quickly.

During this field training workshop, we will identify new threats to our region of southeastern Wisconsin. Attendees will be able to see these species growing in natural habitats and learn their identifying characteristics. We will also discuss management strategies for multiple species. This workshop is geared toward professionals working in active ecological restoration and land management. The best way to prevent an exotic species from becoming an ecological nightmare is to prevent it from becoming established. Early detection, rapid response!

Topics will Include:

• Identification of new invaders to the SE Wisconsin Region
• Planning and strategies for eradication and control
• Herbicide rates

This is a field workshop, please dress to be outside in the elements and bring a cold lunch.

To keep the class size small, we ask businesses to limit their attendance to a maximum of two representatives. This will allow us to educate a variety of professionals to help spread the knowledge on how to identify these new invaders.
